Stoffet, der er en blanding af plastik og bomuld, har v\u00e6ret sv\u00e6rt for industrien at skille ad og dermed genanvende. Polyesterstof er n\u00e6rmest overalt i vores dagligdag, og hvert \u00e5r bliver der fremstillet omkring 60 millioner tons af det popul\u00e6re materiale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men produktionen af polyester er h\u00e5rd ved b\u00e5de klimaet og milj\u00f8et, da kun omkring 15% af al polyester bliver genanvendt, mens resten ender p\u00e5 lossepladsen eller bliver br\u00e6ndt og dermed bidrager til mere CO2-udledning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den store udfordring i at genanvende polyester er at skille de plastik- og bomuldsfibre fra hinanden, som stoffet best\u00e5r af, uden at en af delene g\u00e5r tabt i processen. Med de konventionelle metoder, der bruges til genanvendelse af polyester, er det ofte kun plastikken, som bevares, mens bomuldsfibrene g\u00e5r til. Derudover er metoderne komplicerede og dyre og efterlader metalaffald, fordi man bruger metaller som katalysator i den kemiske reaktion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men nu har en flok unge kemikere gjort et gennembrud og opdaget en overraskende enkel l\u00f8sning p\u00e5 det presserende problem, som har potentialet til at g\u00f8re tekstilindustrien mere b\u00e6redygtig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTekstilindustrien mangler en bedre l\u00f8sning til at h\u00e5ndtere blandede materialer som polyester. Lige nu findes der meget f\u00e5 metoder, som kan genanvende b\u00e5de bomuld og plastik \u2013 det er typisk enten-eller. Men med den teknik, som vi har opdaget, kan vi nedbryde plastikken til monomerer og samtidig bevare bomulden p\u00e5 en utrolig simpel og milj\u00f8venlig m\u00e5de. S\u00e5 denne her katalyse-metode kan meget vel blive en gamechanger,\u201d siger postdoc Yang Yang fra Jiwoong Lee-forskningsgruppen p\u00e5 Kemisk Institut. Han er f\u00f8rsteforfatter p\u00e5&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/full\/10.1021\/acssuschemeng.3c03114\">den videnskabelige artikel<\/a>&nbsp;om forskningen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hjortetakssalt og 24 timer i \u2018ovnen\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den nye metode kr\u00e6ver intet specialudstyr &#8211; blot varme, et ikke-giftigt opl\u00f8sningsmiddel og en helt almindelig husmoderingrediens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dVi tager fx en polyesterkjole og klipper den i sm\u00e5 stykker, som vi smider i en beholder. S\u00e5 putter vi en smule mildt opl\u00f8sningsmiddel i, dern\u00e6st hjortetakssalt, som mange kender som h\u00e6vemiddel i bagv\u00e6rk. S\u00e5 varmer vi det hele op til 160 grader og lader det st\u00e5 i 24 timer. Derefter bliver det til en v\u00e6ske, hvor plastik- og bomuldsfibrene har lagt sig i forskellige lag. Det er en billig og meget simpel proces\u201d forklarer Shriaya Sharma, ph.d.-studerende i Jiwoong Lee-gruppen p\u00e5 Kemisk Institut og andenforfatter p\u00e5 studiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I processen bliver hjortetakssaltet, som ogs\u00e5 hedder ammonium bikarbonat, nedbrudt til ammoniak, CO2 og vand. Det er kombinationen af ammoniak og CO2, som fungerer som katalysator og fremkalder den reaktion, der omdanner plastikken, mens bomuldsfibrene bevares. Isoleret er ammoniak giftigt, men i samspil med CO2 er den b\u00e5de milj\u00f8venlig og sikker at bruge. Og fordi processen foreg\u00e5r med milde kemikalier, forbliver bomuldsfibrene intakte og i fortr\u00e6ffelig stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samme forskergruppe har tidligere demonstreret, at CO2 kan fungere som en katalysator til at nedbryde bl.a. nylon uden at efterlade spor. Det var det, der gav dem id\u00e9en til at bruge hjortetakssalt. Alligevel var forskerne forbavsede over, at den simple opskrift rent faktisk gav succesfulde resultater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dF\u00f8rst var vi begejstrede, da vi kunne se, at det virkede rigtig godt p\u00e5 PET-flasker alene, og da vi s\u00e5 opdagede, at det ogs\u00e5 virkede p\u00e5 polyesterstof, var vi n\u00e6rmest ekstatiske. Det var ubeskriveligt. For det er s\u00e5 simpelt at udf\u00f8re, at det n\u00e6sten var for godt til at v\u00e6re sandt,\u201d siger Carlo Di Bernardo, ph.d.-studerende og medforfatter p\u00e5 studiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Metoden er endnu kun afpr\u00f8vet p\u00e5 laboratorie-niveau, men er if\u00f8lge forskerne skal\u00e9rbar. De er nu i kontakt med virksomheder med henblik p\u00e5 at teste metoden i industriskala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cVi h\u00e5ber ogs\u00e5 at kunne kommercialisere denne her teknologi, der rummer s\u00e5 stort et potentiale. Det ville v\u00e6re et k\u00e6mpe spild at beholde den viden inden for universitetets mure,\u201d slutter Yang Yang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FAKTABOKS: PET OG POLYESTER<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PET er den mest brugte type plastik i verden. Produktionen af plastiktypen PET, som vi is\u00e6r kender fra sodavandsflasker, ligger i dag p\u00e5 cirka 70 millioner tons og vokser hvert eneste \u00e5r. En tredjedel af den globale PET-produktion g\u00e5r til at fremstille polyester og andre syntetiske tekstiltyper med.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FAKTABOKS: VIRKER OGS\u00c5 P\u00c5 BESKIDT SKRALD<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den nye genanvendelses-metode baseret p\u00e5 hjortetakssalt (ammonium bikarbonat) virker b\u00e5de p\u00e5 PET-plastik alene og p\u00e5 materialer, der best\u00e5r af PET og bomuld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dHvis vi smider beskidt plastikskrald i beholderen, f\u00e5r vi stadig bomuld og plastik-monomerer i god kvalitet ud af det. Det kan for eksempel ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6re en plastikflaske, hvor der stadig er juicerester i.
